TG0012-D. Two lifeboats rest on the seafloor in 100 feet next to the wreck of the Salem Express. A 330 foot long passenger ferry, it was carrying hundreds of people on pilgrimage, bringing them back from Mecca when it sank in the Hyndman Reefs off Safaga in 1991 after colliding with coral at night in foul weather. The majority of people onboard-- at least 470, and some speculate the number could have been much higher— lost their lives. The ship sank so quickly that the lifeboats were never deployed. Egypt, Red Sea.<br />
