During their prime reproductive years, 35 to 50 foot long female humpbacks give birth to one 13-14 foot long baby every 2-4 years after a 11-12 month gestation period. The calf grows quickly, nursing on milk almost 50 percent fat. Most young whales are weaned by their first birthday. Tonga, Pacific Ocean.<br />
