sand tiger shark photos

TP0741-Dm. Sand Tiger Shark (Carcharias taurus), view from beneath. Fearsome in appearance but not aggressive, these sharks pose no threat to divers unless provoked. They can hover in midwater by using stomach as a buoyancy compensator with air gulped at surface. They feed on bony fishes, sharks and rays, crustaceans, and squid. Some migrate to warmer waters in fall and winter and cooler climates in spring and summer. North Carolina, USA, Atlantic Ocean. Rope in lower left removed digitally.<br />
