TC0208-D. Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus), broad tail flukes may be up to 20 feet wide. Look closely to see barnacles on the edge of the flukes. Thick powerful tail stock and a long, streamlined body mean the blue whale is a fast swimmer capable of 20 mph. Skin color is blue-gray with mottling on the back and sides, with unique blotchy patterning helping scientists to identify individuals. Dorsal fin small and located far back from mid-body. Pacific Ocean.<br />
