TG0835-D. Oceanic Whitetip Shark (Carcharhinus longimanus), view from behind as it swims away. The tail fin is heterocercal- long lobe on top, short lobe on bottom- which is common in pelagic fish as it provides powerful and efficient propulsion for animals always on the move. Note that this shark has an open wound on its flank (from another shark? boat propeller?), and fishing line trailing from its mouth. Egypt, Red Sea.<br />
