This species inhabits both fresh and saltwater in the New World tropics, found throughout the Caribbean, southern Mexico, Central America, northern South America, and southern Florida, USA. It is endangered in parts of its range, and vulnerable to exploitation in many places. Cuba, Caribbean Sea.<br />
