TR5864-D. Southern Stingrays (Dasyatis americana) swimming over shallow sandy bottom. An inshore species, from intertidal to at least 50 meters deep. Usually inactive during day, often buried under sand. Feeds at night primarily on fish, clams, and worms found on sand flats and seagrass beds. Mating occurs during winter months. Litter size 2-10, babies (size 15-20 cm across) born in shallow estuaries. Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, Caribbean Sea.<br />
